Sprint Hotspot

Sprint Hotspot turns your device into a Wi-Fi hotspot and shares your device’s data connection with as many as eight computers or mobile devices via Wi-Fi. When you open Sprint Hotspot, your device creates a secured Wi-Fi network where you can connect your computer and other devices to access the Internet.

To use your device as a Wi-Fi hotspot, make sure that your device has an active data connection. For more information, see Sprint 4G and Data Services (Sprint 3G and 4G Networks).

Note:To connect to your device’s Wi-Fi network, you need a computer with built in Wi-Fi or a Wi-Fi adapter.

Set Up Sprint Hotspot

  1. Touch > > Sprint Hotspot.
  1. Touch OK on the introduction screen.
  1. Enter a new name in the Router name (SSID) text box, or use the default router name.
  1. Select a network security method from the Security list. If you selected WEP, WPA (TKIP), or WPA2 (AES), enter a network key (password) in the Password box.

Hot Spot Device For Wifi

  1. Select the Sprint Mobile Hotspot check box at the top of the screen to turn on the wireless router.

When Sprint Hotspot is active and is ready to share its 3G connection, the 3G hotspot icon () appears in the status bar. When Sprint Hotspot is active and is ready to share its 4G connection, the 4G hotspot icon () appears in the status bar.

Connect Your Computer to Sprint Hotspot

After setting up your device as a wireless router, connect your computer to your device’s Sprint Hotspot and access the Internet.

Windows Vista or Windows 7 Computer

  1. Click Start > Connect To.
  1. In the Connect to a network dialog box, select the Sprint Hotspot name (or SSID), and then click Connect.

Note:Your device’s wireless network may not show up in the list of available networks immediately. Wait for a moment and then refresh the list to see the wireless network.

  1. Enter the network key (if any) that you used when setting up Sprint Hotspot, and then click Connect.
  1. Click Close.

Sprint Hot Spots For Internet

Windows XP Computer

  1. Click Start > Connect To > Wireless Network Connection.
  1. In the Choose a Wireless Network dialog box, select the Sprint Hotspot name (or SSID), and then click Connect.

Note:Your device’s wireless network may not show up in the list of available networks immediately. Wait for a moment and then refresh the list to see the wireless network.

  1. Enter the network key (if any) that you used when setting up Sprint Hotspot, and then click Connect.

Manage Sprint Hotspot

You can set the number of computers or devices or allow only specific devices to connect and use Sprint Hotspot to connect to the Internet.

  1. Touch > > Sprint Hotspot.
  1. Touch OK on the introduction screen.
  1. Touch Manage users, and then set the following options:
  • Select the Allowed users only check box if you want to allow only specific devices or computers to connect to Sprint Hotspot on your device. When you select this option, this icon appears in the status bar every time a new device or computer attempts to connect to Sprint Hotspot. To allow connection, touch Allow on the Manage users screen.
  • Max. connections: Touch to set the maximum number of devices and computers that can connect to and use Sprint Hotspot.
  • Allowed users: Lists the MAC addresses of computers and devices that you have allowed connection to Sprint Hotspot on your device.
  • Block users: Lists the MAC addresses of computers and devices that are not allowed to connect to Sprint Hotspot on your device. Touch an entry to allow connection to Sprint Hotspot.
  1. Touch Done.
  1. Select the Sprint Mobile Hotspot check box at the top of the screen to turn on the wireless router with your new settings.

Turn Off Sprint Hotspot

  1. Touch > > Settings > Wireless & network.
  1. Clear the Sprint Hotspot check box.

Add the Sprint Hotspot Widget

Add the Sprint Hotspot widget to the Home screen to make it faster for you to turn Sprint Hotspot on or off. To learn how to add widgets, see Customize the Home Screen.

Hotspot

Wi-Fi Hotspot allows you to turn your phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. When this feature is turned on, you can share your phone's mobile data services via Wi-Fi with other Wi-Fi enabled devices. The feature works best when used in conjunction with 4G data services (although 3G service can also be used).

Important: Use of the Hotspot feature requires an additional subscription. Sign on to your account at sprint.com/mysprint or access your account via Sprint Zone (Tap > Sprint Zone ) to learn more.

Note: Turning on Hotspot will disable your phone's connection to other Wi-Fi networks.

Set Up Wi-Fi Hotspot

  1. Tap > Settings > Networks tab.
  2. Tap Tethering > Wi-Fi hotspot.
  3. Tap the Wi-Fi hotspot switch to turn Wi-Fi hotspot on.

Sprint Hotspot Plans

  • Wi-Fi hotspot is enabled.
  • To disable Wi-Fi hotspot, tap the switch again.

Note: The best way to keep using the phone as a hotspot is to have it connected to a power supply.

Important: Write down the passkey (password) for this connection (shown onscreen).

Connect to Wi-Fi Hotspot

Sprint Hotspot Review

  1. Enable Wi-Fi (wireless) functionality on your target device (laptop, media device, etc.).
  2. Scan for Wi-Fi networks from the device and select your phone hotspot from the network list.
  3. Select this phone and follow your onscreen instructions to enter the passkey (provided on the Wi-Fi Hotspot page).
  4. Launch your Web browser to confirm you have an Internet connection.
