I can't seem to find a way to download the user's manual, as with mostmanuals (in PDF), as opposed to having to use it manually online.
Am I missing something, or is that just a Gimp fact of life?
- With the upcoming GIMP 2.10 release we intend to finally close the time gap between releases of source code, installers, and the user manual. This means that we need a more coordinated effort between the GIMP developers team and the GIMP User Manual team. For the past several months we’ve already.
- GIMPUsersManual.pdf is hosted at www.docs.gimp.org since 2007, the book GIMP Users Manual contains 653 pages, you can download it for free by clicking in 'Download' button below, you can also preview it before download. Gimp 2 Manual Gimp 2.6 User Manual.
Thanks.

Dear Eric,

We provided PDF versions of the manual for a while. The process involvednever became stable and made it out of the work-in-progress state. Thatis, we can create PDFs for most latin languages, but there is noautomated process available to provide them on our homepage fordownload. The PDFs are somewhat usable (readable, printable), but farfrom perfect.
Therefore you see only HTML versions of the manual.
If you can spare some free time I encourage you to have a look at ourproject with a git clone. If all dependencies are installed, a simple:
./autogen.sh make pdf
will start creating PDFs. Keep in mind that this is for user manualdevelopers only and not supposed to be run by an end-user (-reader).
Kind Regards,

Download Gimp 2.10.8 Pdf Manual
Thanks for the information, though I regret the answer.
As I had Gimp recommended to me to use to create covers for the ebooks Iwrite, I was simply hoping to have a manual available that I could easilyread and search. I am not a developer of any sort, and have no idea what a'git clone' is or what dependencies are.
I'll see if I can find online tutorials somewhere that explain (hopefully)how to do the only four things I am really interested in: (1) being ableto resize an image where I control both height and width [right now thescale feature seems to allow me to change one or the other and then Gimpkeeps the original proportions];
Something like this:
(2) adding text [title/author];
this (unfortunately only part of the reference, but perhaps stillhelpful):
(3) > superimposing either parts of several photographs onto a blank background,or parts of one photo on top of another,
You want to work with layers:
and (4) winding up with a jpeg
file [required for ebook publishing via Amazon, etc.].
and this:
My partner of 30 years died unexpectedly just under 20 years ago, but helived by the principle that if you don't ask, you don't get. So if you canpoint me in the direction of solutions to any of the above issues, thatwould be greatly appreciated.
If not, thanks for taking the time to explain the user manual situation.
Download Gimp User Manual 2.8
Hope that will help, even if it helps to get started.

GIMP is a cool open source image editor that is a great free replacement for the Adobe Photoshop. It has its Windows, Mac and Linux version. You will be amazed at how many features and tools it has for an open source image editor. It actually can seriously compete with the ones you pay for. It has device support, a lot of plug-ins and RAW compatibility. However, it can be a little bit more complex for the uninitiated. That’s why, you should read a manual. You can easily download the GIMP user manual pdf and learn all the basics before you start using the program. GIMP will allow you to edit your photos professionally for free. It may seem complicated to some, but once you learn how to handle it, your photos will be gorgeous without much effort. If you are on the budget, GIMP is the real solution for you. The abbreviation GIMP comes from GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a pretty solid alternative to any digital image manipulation software and besides that it is completely free. GIMP was released in 1996 for the first time and since then it improved a lot and it is widely recognized.
